Our story

Food tells the story of where we come from.

We have lived, travelled and eaten in many different parts of the world. Wherever we went, we discovered the same thing: every country, every city and every family tells its story through food.

In Los Angeles, we met a Mexican woman who still made tortillas the way her grandmother had taught her in a small village near Oaxaca.

In Antalya, Leyla prepared gözleme using a recipe passed down by her mother-in-law. The dough was rolled by hand, filled and cooked in the same way her family had done for generations.

And Fatima, from Kharian in Pakistan, made her koftas with the exact balance of spices her mother had taught her to recognise. Not from a written recipe, but through aroma, taste and experience.

This is the kind of food we never forget.

Not because it is necessarily served in a famous restaurant, but because it carries something with it: a home, a family, a place and a story.

Manchester tastes of the world.

Since moving to Manchester, I have had the privilege of tasting food from almost every part of the world.

This city brings together people with roots in Pakistan, India, Somalia, Turkey, Nigeria, Jamaica, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and far beyond. Every family carries its own dishes, traditions and culinary secrets.

It is a privilege we often forget.

The best biryani, dumplings, jollof rice or tagine may not be found in a restaurant.

It may be prepared just a few doors away.

By a neighbour you have not met yet.

Why we created GetMamas.

GetMamas opens the door between people who make extraordinary food and people who want to experience something authentic.

We want to give talented home cooks the opportunity to share the dishes they are proud of in a safe, trusted and responsible way. At the same time, we help local customers discover the food and stories already living within their neighbourhoods.

GetMamas is a celebration of the Mamas who keep their connection to home alive through food.

The ones who still use their mother’s spice blend.

The ones who prepare the dough the way their grandmother did.

The ones who know a dish is ready without looking at a clock.

Because a recipe is rarely just a recipe.

It is a memory.
An identity.
A language that can be shared without words.

At GetMamas, we believe that great food deserves to be discovered — and that the person behind it deserves to be seen.

Come and taste the stories Manchester is already full of.
